Stem cell therapy is a medical treatment in which stem cells are used to repair or replace damaged or diseased tissues in the body. Vaginal rejuvenation using stem cells is an emerging area in regenerative medicine that aims to restore the structure and function of vaginal tissues.

Stem Cell Therapy for Vaginal Rejuvenation

In recent years, scientific studies on stem cell therapy in genital aesthetics have significantly increased, leading to the development of various treatment applications.

Vaginal rejuvenation using stem cell therapy is an emerging area in regenerative medicine that aims to restore the structure and function of vaginal tissues.

Stem cell therapy for vaginal rejuvenation is particularly appealing to women experiencing symptoms related to aging, childbirth, or hormonal changes, such as vaginal atrophy, dryness, labia majora lightening and wrinkle reduction, or loss of elasticity.

The application of stem cell therapy derived from adipose tissue is a simple procedure that can be performed in an office setting and takes a short time. Additionally, stem cells can also be obtained from the patient's own blood.

What are Stem Cells?

Stem cell therapy is a medical treatment in which stem cells are used to repair or replace damaged or diseased tissues in the body. Stem cells are unique in that they have the ability to differentiate into different types of cells, such as muscle cells, nerve cells, or blood cells, making them valuable in regenerative medicine.

How is Stem Cell Application to the Vulva and Vagina Performed?

FDA and FIDIKA-approved devices are used for stem cell therapy application. For stem cell therapy derived from adipose tissue, a small amount of fat tissue is usually taken from the patient’s abdominal area, hips, or thighs under local anesthesia using a special syringe. Then, within approximately 5 minutes, a stem cell-rich solution is prepared from this fat tissue using a special device. This solution is then injected into the targeted vulvovaginal areas.

It is also possible to obtain stem cells from the patient’s own blood. For this, blood taken from the patient’s arm is centrifuged to obtain a stem cell-rich solution. When this solution is injected into the vagina and vulva, it stimulates new collagen production, enhancing the elasticity of the vaginal mucosa and improving its appearance and function.

Stem cell therapy is one of the most natural methods that can be applied for vaginal rejuvenation.

Since adipose tissue contains more stem cells than blood, it provides a longer-lasting effect.

In a prospective study published in 2021, after inducing menopause in mice by removing their ovaries, human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells were injected into the vaginal area, resulting in increased extracellular matrix production, new blood vessel and smooth muscle formation, improved biomechanical properties of the vagina, and reduced risk of pelvic organ prolapse due to the strengthening of weakened vaginal tissues. (1)

Additionally, in patients with vulvar dystrophy due to menopause or other causes, two sessions of adipose tissue-derived stem cell therapy repeated over three months resulted in reduced pain and improved sexual function due to increased new blood vessel formation. (2)

In another prospective study published in 2021, after autologous mesenchymal stem cell transfer from fat tissue was performed on 96 patients for labia majora augmentation and vaginal tightening, no serious complications were observed post-procedure, and significant improvement was noted in the Female Genital Self-Image Scale (FGSIS) score, thanks to the stromal vascular fraction and stem cells contained in the fat tissue. Why is Stem Cell Application to the Vulva and Vagina Performed?

  • Vaginal atrophy and dryness
  • Labia majora lightening and wrinkle reduction
  • Incontinence treatment
  • G shot and O shot
  • Vaginal relaxation and widening
  • Vulvodynia

Vaginal Atrophy and Dryness

Vaginal atrophy occurs after menopause due to a decrease in the hormone estrogen. For many women, vaginal atrophy not only causes pain during sexual intercourse due to dryness and loss of elasticity but also leads to recurrent urinary tract infections and vaginal infections due to disruption of the vaginal flora.

Disruption of the vaginal flora means a decrease in the beneficial bacteria in the vagina due to reduced estrogen levels after menopause. These beneficial bacteria protect the vagina from infections such as yeast and bacterial vaginosis. Stem cell therapy can help reduce these issues.

Labia Majora Lightening and Wrinkle Reduction

Hormones, aging, or procedures like laser hair removal can cause hyperpigmentation (dark discoloration) in the labia majora or outer lips. This dark color may bother some patients. Laser or chemical peel procedures can be used to lighten this color, but the skin may return to a darker color than before. Therefore, stem cell therapy, a more natural and lasting method, is preferred. Stem cell therapy can provide lightening and wrinkle reduction in a more natural way.

Incontinence Treatment

Urinary incontinence can occur due to various reasons, the most significant being pelvic floor relaxation, bladder prolapse, and changes in the urethral angle caused by years and childbirth. This can lead to urine leakage during activities that increase intra-abdominal pressure, such as coughing, sneezing, or exercising.

After injecting stem cell rich solution under the urethra, it can activate stem cells in the area, promoting new blood vessel, nerve, and healthy tissue formation through the growth factors and cytokines it contains. By increasing urethral support, urinary incontinence issues can be improved.

G shot and O shot

The G spot is hypothetically a region rich in nerves and blood vessels on the front wall of the vagina, playing a role in sexual arousal and female orgasm.

By injecting a stem cell-rich fluid into this area (G spot and around the clitoris) it is possible to renew the tissues, make the G spot more prominent, and increase arousal and pleasure during sexual intercourse.

Vaginal Relaxation and Widening

Over the years and after childbirth, pelvic floor muscles may relax, causing vaginal widening and a decrease in sexual pleasure. After stem cell therapy, new tissue formation can be promoted with growth factors and cytokines, contributing to vaginal tightening.

Vulvodynia

Vulvodynia is pain or a burning sensation in the external genital area with no known cause. Stem cell therapy may help alleviate these symptoms.

Are There Any Harms of Stem Cell Application to the Vulva and Vagina?

Stem cell therapy is a natural treatment with no synthetic substances used, so it has no side effects. Only mild burning, swelling, or bruising may occur temporarily in the areas where the injection is made and where the fat tissue is harvested. In a scientific study involving 96 patients, no significant long-term complications were observed. (3)

What is the Recovery Process After Stem Cell Therapy?

Stem cell therapy is a treatment that can be performed on an outpatient basis. Afterward, patients can continue with their daily activities. Since the cell renewal resulting from stem cell therapy will take time, its effects may take a few months to manifest.

What is the Cost of Vaginal Rejuvenation with Stem Cells?

The procedures for vaginal rejuvenation with stem cell therapy may vary from person to person. Some patients may require additional surgical treatment. The procedure can be performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia, in a hospital or clinic setting. Prices may vary depending on all these factors.
