Labial Puff Surgery in Turkey

Labial puff procedure is also known as Labial fat grafting or labia majora augmentation. Labial puff is a non-surgical office procedure of rejuvenating the labia majora. Certain labial fillers are injected into the labia to plump them.

Labia majora (the outer lips surrounding the inner lips on both sides) may get deflated, loose and saggy due to several reasons. The vulvar skin may look older due to labial laxity.

This may cause physical disturbance and esthetic concern in some patients. Some patients have a question in their mind: 'How can I make my vagina lips fuller? The loss of volume in the vulva can be corrected by using fillers that enhance the volume the labia majora.

Who is a candidate for labial puff?

The labia majora (outer vaginal lips) may lose their volume due to several reasons.Following patients may be candidate for labial puff procedure:

• Menopausal hormonal changes and aging may cause the vulvar tissue to get atrophic due to decreased estrogen and collagen in the skin,
• Sudden excessive weight loss may also be responsible for labial laxity. This situation is commonly observed after gastric sleeve surgery,
• Child birth is another reason for labia to get loose.In some women the labia may get back to normal, in others the changes may be permanent,
• Some patients may prefer to hide the labia minora which extend beyond the labia majora, by a simple non-surgical procedure of augmenting the labia majora.

How long does a labial puff last?

The procedure lasts around 15-20 minutes and the effect of the procedure will stay for around 12 months. Whether the filler is synthetic hyaluronic acid (Desirial Plus) or the patient’s own fat obtained by liposuction, it will be absorbed by the body in around 12 months. But since the patient’s own fat is an autologous graft tissue, not all of it will be absorbed.

Is anesthesia necessary for labial puff surgery?

Topical anesthesia (creams) and local anesthesia can be used to numb the area before labial puff procedure.

Is the labial puff safe?

Labial puff is a safe procedure with very low risk of allergic reaction to hyaluronic acid or local aneshesia. Temporary swelling and bruising is normal after the procedure. There is no healing time, the patient can go back to work and daily activities right away. But it is recommended to stay away from sexual activity, horse riding, bicycle riding for about 4 weeks.

The following complications may be observed very rarely after labial puff procedure:

• Bleeding,
• Hematoma,
• Infection,
• Fat embolism,
• Fat necrosis,
• Tissue irregularities or asymmetry,
• Local dimpling.

What type of fillers are used for labial puff?

There are mainly two types of fillers used:

1. Patient’s own fat tissue derived by liposuction from buttocks, inner or outer thighs, abdomen, mons pubis or waist. The fat tissue obtained by liposuction is processed and then injected into the labia majora (vulvar autologous fat transfer).
2. Synthetic hyaluronic acid preparations (Desirial Plus).

Fat tissue transfer is the most commonly preferred method since it stays longer in the tissues and its absorption by the body is less. Fat tissue also contains mesenchymal stem cells which enhance tissue regeneration.

Is there an alternative to Labial Puff Procedure?

There is an alternative to labial puff procedure for patients with too much excess loose and saggy skin tissue. In such patients with severe labia majora hypertrophy, surgical wedge resection of the skin with the underlying fat is preferred rather than labial puff procedure.

Labial puff is the preferred method when there are mild wrinkles and loss of volume in the labia majora for a younger vulvar appearance.

Instructions for Postoperative Care

• Ice-packs are applied on the vulva in an on and off manner during the first few days to decrease swelling and bruising,
• Avoid hot showers, washing in the tub or swimming for 4 weeks, you can take a shower without rubbing the labia,
• Avoid smoking and alcohol consumption for the first few weeks,
• Have a balanced diet and drink lots of water,
• Do not wear tight clothes or underwear,
• Avoid heavy sports, horse riding and cycling for 4 weeks,
• Sexual intercourse should be avoided for 4 weeks,
• Epilation, wax or shaving should be avoided for 4 weeks.
